Pharmacokinetics and Safety of Mitragynine in Beagle Dogs
This study examined the safety and pharmacokinetics of mitragynine, the primary psychoactive compound in kratom, in female beagle dogs. Findings showed rapid absorption and distribution, with peak plasma concentrations reached within 0.5 hours after oral dosing. Mild sedation and anxiolytic effects were observed, indicating tolerability. These results offer important insights for future clinical studies and dose predictions involving mitragynine.

Oral Pharmacokinetics in Beagle Dogs of the Mitragynine Metabolite, 7-Hydroxymitragynine
This study examined the pharmacokinetics and safety of 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-HMG), a potent µ-opioid receptor agonist and metabolite of mitragynine found in kratom, in healthy female beagle dogs. After a single oral dose of 1 mg/kg, rapid absorption of 7-HMG was observed, with peak plasma concentrations reached within 15 minutes. 7-HMG exhibited slow elimination, with a mean half-life of 3.6 hours. Overall, the oral administration of 7-HMG was well tolerated, with no adverse events reported. These findings provide valuable insights into the pharmacokinetics and safety profile of 7-HMG in dogs.

Cannabidiol Research
Our investigators have also collaborated with other institutions, delving into the therapeutic benefits of CBD (cannabidiol) for pain management. With a focus on evidence-based science, we aim to uncover the potential of CBD as a safe and effective solution for alleviating pain and improving well-being.
CBD RESEARCH
Efficacy of a cannabidiols for pain in dogs following a TPLO
This trial examined the effects of a CBD/CBDA hemp product on postoperative pain and bone healing in dogs. While it did not significantly impact pain or bone healing, fewer dogs required sedation for activity restrictions in the CBD/CBDA group.
Herbal Blends Research
Our investigators also collaborate on research investigating the synergistic benefits of herbal blends for pain relief. By combining the healing properties of various botanicals, we aim to unlock natural solutions for managing discomfort and promoting wellness.
HERBAL BLEND RESEARCH
A pilot study examining a proprietary herbal blend for the treatment of canine osteoarthritis pain
This study investigated a herbal remedy for canine osteoarthritis pain in a randomized, double-blinded, controlled trial involving 24 client-owned dogs. While the supplement was deemed safe and well-tolerated, it did not significantly improve clinical signs of lameness compared to placebo, based on veterinary or owner assessments.

Measurement of 3-acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid and 11-keto-beta-boswellic acid in Boswellia serrata Supplements Administered to Dogs
This study analyzed Boswellia serrata extract (BSE) formulations for canine osteoarthritis treatment, finding significant variation in active ingredient concentrations. Products claiming 3-acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA) had higher levels than those without, exceeding label claims by 73%. While all products met or exceeded labels, independent verification of BSE supplements is crucial for accurate clinical use.
